Event Guide
Feb 27 - Mar 7, 2026
Welcome to
end of the earth
Patagonia is a wonder to behold. And now, behold the Patagonia race guide. In it lie the answers to life’s most important questions — like how far you’ll be running each day.
Patagonia, spanning both Chile and Argentina, is a breathtaking region known for its dramatic landscapes and pristine wilderness. In the southernmost part of South America, Patagonia is a land of towering mountain ranges, vast glaciers, lush forests, and windswept plains.
The Chilean side is characterized by rugged fjords, dramatic coastlines. On the Argentine side, you'll find the vast Patagonian steppe, with its sweeping vistas and unique wildlife, including the famous Perito Moreno Glacier, one of the few advancing glaciers in the world. Argentina is the second largest country in South America and has 7 geographical regions. Each region boasts a multitude of contrasting topography, cultures, and climates. We’ll sample as many as we can! As we travel through more intimate and less-populated areas, I hope you are embraced by the hospitable warmth of this beautiful country. In the quietness, we’ll keep a watchful eye for different fauna like armadillos, guanacos (similar to llamas), and condors! If you’re not wowed by wildlife, I hope you find something to admire in the sand dunes, glaciers, and volcanic fields that we’ll explore.
Through Vacation Races, we’ve helped tens of thousands of people enjoy the beauty of the US National Parks. We can’t wait to do the same with Runseek. Thank you for trusting us to show you the beauty and culture of this remarkable land of opposites. Welcome to Patagonia! We’ll see you soon!

FAQS
Each evening around dinner time, your event director will send a message on WhatsApp with the next day’s schedule. If you have free time that day, you’ll see it in the schedule and you can do whatever you like! You don’t have to take advantage of the amenities at the hotel - you can take a nap, read, walk around, try a new restaurant, whatever you prefer.
Amenities that are generally included in the reservation are typically free. Amenities such as spas, bars and restaurants would be at your own expense.
We encourage you to not book a service or tour close to the time we return to the hotel, as sometimes there are unforseen delays or changes. If you want to book a specific tour or service during free time, check with your event director first.

LOCAL THINGS TO KNOW
culture

Perito Moreno Glacier
The Perito Moreno Glacier, located in Argentina’s Los Glaciares National Park, is one of the world’s only advancing glaciers. Covering around 250 square kilometers, it’s about 30 kilometers long, with a 70-meter-high ice wall that frequently calves, causing massive ice chunks to fall into the water. Known for its dramatic ruptures, this glacier periodically blocks and then releases parts of Lake Argentino, creating a unique spectacle.
Here are some historical highlights about the Perito Moreno Glacier:
-
Named after explorer Francisco Moreno, the glacier honors his role in 19th-century border disputes that helped preserve Argentine Patagonia from territorial loss.
-
Perito Moreno Glacier has been studied since the early 20th century for its rare advancement pattern, while most glaciers worldwide are in retreat.
-
Los Glaciares National Park, home to Perito Moreno, was declared a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1981, acknowledging its global importance and unique glaciology.
The Perito Moreno Glacier holds cultural significance for Argentina and Patagonia. It’s a symbol of Argentina’s natural beauty and resilience, inspiring regional folklore and environmental awareness. Locally known as a marvel of nature, it attracts indigenous and historical respect from the Tehuelche people, who consider the area sacred.
The Tehuelche people, also known as the Aónikenk, are indigenous to Patagonia, spanning southern Argentina and parts of Chile. They traditionally lived as hunter-gatherers, moving with the seasons across the plains and mountains.
Their culture holds a deep spiritual respect for the land, with unique beliefs and strong oral traditions.
The heart of social connection!
Argentinian mate is more than just a beverage; it’s a cherished cultural tradition that brings people together! Whether enjoyed in a park, at home, or during a gathering, mate is a delightful experience that encapsulates the spirit of Argentina. So, grab your gourd and join in on this beloved tradition—it’s a taste of culture and camaraderie in every sip!
The origins of mate trace back to the indigenous Guaraní people, who first discovered the energizing properties of yerba mate. When Spanish colonizers arrived in the 16th century, they quickly adopted the drink, leading to its widespread popularity across Argentina and other South American countries.
This herbal infusion is made from the leaves of the yerba mate plant and is enjoyed in a special gourd, sipped through a metal straw called a "bombilla."
Mate is packed with antioxidants, which help fight free radicals in the body, potentially reducing the risk of chronic diseases and promoting overall health.

A Taste of Argentina
Discovering the Empanada
More than just a snack, the empanada has a rich history that spans continents and cultures, and in Argentina, it's been transformed into a true art form.
The Argentinian empanada has roots in both Spanish and indigenous cooking traditions, dating back to when Spanish settlers introduced filled pastries to the region in the 16th century. Empanadas in Argentina evolved to include local ingredients, with each region developing its unique variations. The empanada became popular due to its practicality for workers in the fields or travelers who needed a portable meal. Over time, it became a beloved national dish, with fillings that range from beef, chicken, and cheese to regional specialties featuring local spices and vegetables.
